Street Kings - movie violence with a good story

I was sitting at home last night - girlfriend off at work, gaming friends doing who knows what AFK so I thought to myself - heck let's go see a movie!

I ended up seeing a movie that's been out for a little while - Street Kings (probably a week or 2 from DVD release) at the $1.50 theater. After sitting down I prepared myself for some violence the likes of which you normally see in a grand theft auto game.

Let's get to the story - tough LA vice special detective (Keaneu Reeves, Mr. Neo himself) is one mean S.O.B with his crew of semi-crooked cop partners busting heads and bending rules to nab bad guys. It seems Dt. Ludlow is (by his boss's own words) the "tip of the spear" and typically they send him into the most dangerous gun fights to nail the thugs who patrol LA's street nightlife.

After killing a robbing/kidnap crew single handedly and rescuing hostages Neo gets pulled into a serious dirty cop scandel that threatens to bring down not only himself but his whole department. Dirty cops it seems are everywhere in Los Angeles and evidence tampering, extortion and murder are the norm for dealing with potential problems with officers.

This is one of those gun fight movies that come out every once in a while - crime dramas that offer up a good story but mix in some serious violence to keep the audience happy. The violence level is up there but the story surprisingly is well written. Thumbs up from me as I walked out of the theater - some great characters and performances in Street Kings, check it out!

In the "Thank God that's fixed" news file...

Makes you wonder what they would've done had they not been able to fix this:

Running Battlefield servers is no easy business

I'm constantly reminded while getting a ranked battlefield 2 server is fairly easy, attracting players to join it and get a game going isn't. I've been in this server business now for a few years and running lots of different games with my World Gaming Order and with friends and now again my side project vipergaming.net and while sometimes you can find a winning formula for attracting players, it isn't always easy to keep them.

I'm still having fun here with my Viper Room servers. I'm hoping still to get some of the old crew together this summer and have relive some old times in the JA server, only right now my time is spent with all my friends trying to get several different BF2 servers back on track.

It can drive a person crazy somedays, but lucky for me I'm just here to have fun so if a day of server camping doesn't produce a full server then I'll just keep at it until I do. Between me and the WGO and my friends over at OCSC we can offer just about anything any bf2 player would want, but it's just getting the servers going that's not as easy as it should be. To my friends who are helping me get servers going and camping on them day and night, I salute you!

Why I love watching the military channel

A friend once asked me, were you ever in the military? No, I said. I do watch the military channel though!

What a great channel to have on your cable lineup. Military shows 24/7 with some great content and insight into everything military. Well, getting to the point here - I was watching TMC and I happen to catch weaponology and they were discussing the weapons of the Russian Spetsnaz. The Spetsnaz! Waa hoo! I play that army regularly in my battlefield 2 special forces! I got a chance to see the real deal and some of their exercises and operations. Their weapon of choice - the AK47. This weapon they explained can fire even with some pretty hefty dirt and mud all over it - one tough customer that will pretty much always fire! Anyhow, it was great to see and learn about the Spetsnaz and all their weapons. Now I'll always smile when I play that army in my video games!
